Competent Organisations
Based on Art. 36 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 competent organisations (universities, institutes, governmental, public and other scientific bodies) in the European member states carry out various tasks in support of the work of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). These tasks include
- preparatory work for scientific opinions,
- scientific and technical assistance,
- collection of data, and
- identification of emerging risks.
Some of the tasks may be supported financially, in the form of grants. Only organisations on the List of Competent Organisations (also known as Art. 36 List) are eligible to receive EFSA grants. The registration of such an organisation is subject to an approval process by the Permanent Representation of Luxembourg to the European Union and the EFSA Management Board.
