Clostridium perfringens

Description and health risks:

The toxin produced by Clostridium perfringens can cause severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. There are 2 main forms of toxin, type A being by far the most common and type C being rarer and more serious.

Contamination most often occurs through the consumption of undercooked meat or insufficiently reheated dishes.

People who have consumed a contaminated product and are experiencing symptoms should seek medical advice and disclose their exposure. Symptoms may vary from person to person and may vary in severity depending on the extent of infection.
