Hydrocyanic acid
The pits and seeds of fruits such as apples, apricots, cherries, plums and peaches, as well as almonds, linseed and manioc, contain amygdalin, a natural compound that is converted to hydrocyanic acid or cyanide during digestion. Cyanide can cause headaches and dizziness, and in extreme cases can also be fatal by preventing respiration at the cellular level. Anyone who has eaten contaminated products and is experiencing these symptoms is advised to consult a doctor.
