VMPR - veterinary medicinal product residues

Pharmacologically active substances used in veterinary medicine are many and varied. As a result, there are major differences in terms of their medical function and their influence on food safety as residues present in foodstuffs.

Foodstuffs may become contaminated with drug residues through incorrect handling of the drug, accidental contamination or even the illegal use of certain substances.

All foodstuffs of animal origin may be affected, including meat, milk, eggs and honey.

Similarly, all classes of pharmacologically active substances are potentially problematic. Examples include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, anti-parasitics, sex hormones and others.

The potential danger depends on the substance in question and cannot be described in general terms.
