Patulin

Patulin is a mycotoxin, a natural toxic substance produced by a number of fungal species (mushrooms), mainly from the Penicillium genus, which contaminates Pomaceae (apples, pears, quinces). Patulin has been detected as a contaminant in many fruits, vegetables, cereals, and other food products; however, the main sources of contamination are apples and apple-derived products.
