Mycotoxins

Mycotoxin is an umbrella term for the various toxins produced by different mould/fungus species. Mycotoxins can be dangerous to humans and animals. The best-known mycotoxins include aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, patulin and fumonisins, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, T2 and HT2 and ergot alkaloids.

Temperature and humidity have a major influence on the growth of fungi.

Mycotoxins can have acute negative effects (gastrointestinal and renal disorders), but also chronic negative effects (immune deficiency or cancer).
